Today we're sharing the second of twenty-two paintings (all of them views of The Bronx) by Bronx artist Daniel Hauben for the new
Robert A. M. Stern Library on the Bronx Community College campus. The painting is titled "The Artist Painting" (below) and is
based on a photograph of the artist taken while he was painting "Howard's View" in The Bronx.
"In 2008, my friend Howard was offered a 13th floor Park Reservoir apartment, and invited me over to check it out. Walking into the living room for the first time, I caught a glimpse of the
magnificent view, and made a beeline to the window. Facing west, it looks out across the Major Deegan, the #1 train on Broadway and up the hill to Riverdale, while to the north one can see the
great expanse of Van Cortlandt Park. I turned to Howard and gave him the thumbs-up. Within days of his taking the apartment, and before he had a chance to start filling the place with furniture,
I insinuated my easel and myself. I made two paintings: one of this view (seen below), and one from his bedroom window which faces northeast. This panel (below) is based on a photograph
taken of me while I was painting there."
Thanks for sharing with us Daniel. We look forward to seeing the next 20!!
