Today we're sharing the fifth of twenty-two paintings (all of them views of The Bronx) by Bronx artist Daniel
Hauben for the new Robert A. M. Stern Library on the Bronx Community College campus. The panel is
titled "Mango Vendor" (below) and is a painting of a mango vendor under one The Bronx's many elevated trains.
"The panel, Mango Vendor, is just that - a mango vendor selling produce under an elevated train in The Bronx. It's an everyday occurrence that has inspired me to
create seven works of art in pastel, oil, oil relief, a 15 foot acrylic mural in the cafeteria of a Bronx High School, and an 8 foot faceted glass piece for my MTA commission
titled "The El."
I've included 3 different mango vendor paintings below. You can see the glass piece at the Freeman Station on the 2/5 line and read more about it on the New York Times website
Have you seen any of Hauben's mango vendor pieces before? Which is your favorite?
